Persephone Market Garden

Your Farmers

Farming is a family endeavour!

Kristine is the primary farmer. She grew up on a dairy farm in southwestern Ontario. After almost a decade away from farming, spent studying, working and traveling, she returned to Grey County in 2009 and started market gardening with her mom, Angelika. In 2010, she took on leadership of Persephone. Her degrees in Environmental Studies and Organic Food Chain Management are coming in handy, but her skills as a farmer are rooted in her parents.

Thorsten was born and raised in Bielefeld, Germany. Since his master program in environmental sciences, his interest in climate change focused his work on the connection between climate, agriculture and water. After years in research as an environmental scientist, he enjoys getting his hands dirty and resuscitating his practical side on the farm. Thorsten takes care of special projects in the garden, like building a greenhouse and putting up a deer fence.

The farm team also includes our children, Oskar,  Marilla and Frieda!

We are also members of a consulting cooperative, the Grey Bruce Centre for Agroecology, which offers workshops and consulting services on local food systems and ecological farming.
